O primeiro-ministro da Hungria, Ferenc Gyurcsany, disse ontem que está disposto a "restabelecer a ordem por todos os meios" e excluiu qualquer hipótese de demissom, depois dos tumultos da noite anterior em Budapeste. Pelo menos 150 pessoas, cem polícias e 50 manifestantes, ficaram feridas, uma das quais em estado grave, nos confrontos da noite de anteontem, os piores na Hungria desde o fim do comunismo em 1989, entre a polícia e manifestantes que exigiam a demissom do primeiro-ministro socialista.

Os protestos foram desencadeados pela difusom pela rádio pública do registo de um discurso de Gyurcsany à porta fechada, durante o qual admitia em Maio que o seu Governo tinha "mentido" para esconder que iria adoptar um plano de austeridade drástica depois de ser reeleito.

Na gravaçom, o primeiro-ministro reconhecia que mentiu durante ano e meio à populaçom sobre a situaçom económica do país, para ganhar as eleições legislativas de Abril. Este Verom, o Governo anunciou medidas de austeridade impopulares - nomeadamente, a subida de impostos e a descida de subsídios - para reduzir o défice público, que atingiu níveis recorde no país, e perspectivar a entrada na zona euro.

Viktor Orban, presidente do principal partido da oposiçom, reclamou já a saída de cena de Gyurcsany, caso o partido socialista perca as eleições locais do próximo dia 1 de Outubro. De acordo com as últimas sondagens, a oposiçom regista 34% das intenções de voto, contra 23% dos socialistas.

Desde a divulgaçom do discurso de Gyurcsany que a oposiçom de direita tem vindo a exigir a demissom do primeiro-ministro, tendo conseguido juntar na segunda-feira cerca de dez mil manifestantes à frente do Parlamento. Segundo a agência noticiosa MTI, a violência eclodiu quando cerca de um milhar de pessoas se dirigiu para o edifício próximo da televisom, incitadas por Laszlo Toroczkai, dirigente de uma organizaçom radical que exigia que a leitura de uma petiçom fosse transmitida em directo pela televisom. A polícia tentou impedir a entrada no edifício, recorrendo a granadas de gás lacrimogéneo e canhons de augua, mas mesmo assim cerca de três dezenas de pessoas conseguiram entrar.
